Dolce and Gabbana – Fashion Show Winter 2010
Filed under Fashion
Surrealism, the cultural movement of 1920’s is the theme of Dolce and Gabbana Winter 2010 Fashion Show. It brings out the element of surprise and mystery in a creative and feminine way in the collection. The designers have played very innovatively with fabrics, proportions, materials, and details. Inspired by Surrealists Salvador Dali, Jean Cocteau and Man Ray it is a fantastic collection. Stefano Gabanna said “There is a need to dream now and go beyond this moment.” before they showcased their collection.
Fabric details
The fabric used for the collection is Silk Mikado which is a brand of blended silk, usually heavier than 100% silk to give a dress a crisp, lady-like body. It is combined with sophisticated velvet prints, brocade, georgette plissé, wool crêpe, cloth, leather, cashmere, tweed, flocade, Astrakhan, Kidassia and fox furs giving a unique stylish look. The grosgrain bows on the waists of the dresses are the unexpected details of the collection.
Color Play
Powerful colors like black and white were used for the collection. Shocking pink, Grey, Blue, and Gold touches added that extra zing to the collection.
Style
Mystical look was created with coats, dresses and capes with important shoulders, butterflies or shell shaped without any internal structure.
A variety of furs were used for short jackets in form of fabric or details such as black fur pom-poms closed with uniquely shaped jeweled buttons. Surprisingly long shocking pink Kidassia furs were looking ravishing. The short brocade jackets which have fox fur shoulders and Astrakhan on the back will compliment plisse georgette skirt perfectly. Going with the theme frilled cape cloaks with butterfly-shaped shoulders added the mysterious angle to the collection. The sequined buttons used in the collection were a potpourri of turquoise, coral, amethyst, shell and wood. The Mikado dresses in white with patterns created using nets, velvet abstracts and furs were beautiful. The dresses with Marilyn Monroe prints in white or the one in shocking pink silk with a grosgrain bow defining the waist were iconic. The dresses in the finale had white silk Mikado big evening gowns, long and short, with Marilyn Monroe prints was cherry on the top.
Accessories
Shoes: Platform shoes in Suede with some surreal add-ons complimented the theme of the collection.
Bags: Be it “Miss Sicily” bags or the “Katerine” clutches made a style statement in itself. Miss Sicily bags were having quite interesting dimensions. Also surreal touches were given to the clutches with jeweled locking made of crystals, turquoise, topaz and coral. Suede clutches printed with surreal faces were the best amongst them.
Hair accessories: Hair statements were made using headbands made of leather gloves or ribbons and bows.
Jewellery: To match with the details of the dress necklaces made of intertwined turquoise, coral and shells adorned the necks of the models.
Go and treat yourself with the perfect Christmas going out top you would love to have.
